RACO Wireless and MNOs, MVNOs, and MMOs
There are many acronyms and terminology emerging every day in the rapidly expanding and evolving M2M industry. With this enters a variety of wireless carriers and service providers who have been classified into three main categories, MNOs, MVNOs and MMOs.
To shed light on these industry acronyms, the following definitions were published in the Sept/Oct 2007 edition of M2M Magazine on page ten:
“MNO – mobile network operator – A cellular network provider in the traditional sense, with most of its business focused on voice and data services. Its network infrastructure provides the foundation for MVNO and MMO offerings.”
“MVNO – mobile virtual network operator – Provides network connectivity by “leasing” wireless capacity from MNO partners. Also provides application services specifically for machine-to-machine solutions.”
“MMO – M2M mobile operator – Leverages base transceiver stations of MNOs like MVNOs but owns and operates much of its own network infrastructure, enabling a higher degree of control over what service levels and what management offerings are available for customers.”
Which one of these categories does RACO Wireless fit in? The truthful answer is NONE.
