How it Works - UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access)

UMA enabled devices allow voice traffic to go over traditional cellular networks and WLANs. Voice calls can seamlessly switch from one network to another without interruption.  An UMA device, like the BlackBerry Curve 8320, has the ability to save multiple wireless network locations and recognize when one is available. The UMA device will place priority on the available wireless network over the cellular network thus improving coverage and reducing the cellular minutes used.
